Dr. Marilyn M. Irving

Background and Achievements

Dr. Irving is an ad hoc contributor to the Smithsonian Science Education Center’s playbook and sourcebook designed to diversify the STEM teaching workforce. Dr. Irving served as a consultant and curriculum specialist for the National Society of Black Engineers and the Smithsonian Science Education Center Advisory Board, the only unit at the Smithsonian Institute that is solely dedicated to formal K-12 science education reform. IACES (2021) is instrumental in creating DEI resources for the Pennsylvania Support Systems of Higher Education (PASSHE) to diversify teaching in the university curriculum.

 

Dr. Irving and her IACES team are well qualified to create and conduct character-building activities that consist of  Conflict Resolution/Peer Mediation Programs and teaching models that are structured to give students practical methods for diffusing and peacefully handling conflicts. IACES created more than 6 modules, each consisting of 10 hands-on activities on character-building.  Replicating effective initiatives developed by Dr. Irving, IACES offers a Young Scholars Program, Science on Saturday, Kids College, Literacy, and STEM programs. 

Dr. Irving is an experienced educator and manager with extensive experience in designing and implementing STEM learning, Literacy, DEI curricula for K-20 audiences.  She is a leader of hundreds of STEM and pedagogy focused professional development workshops for thousands of educators across the United States.
